Here you see the atraumatic removal of an osseointegrated titanium implant which had a chronic inflammation around its tip and collar.
We always use this special kit to remove titanium implants. It basically applies force to turn the implant counter-clockwise and breaks its contact from the bone. Unfortunately this technique is not very well known and most widely used technique instead is to remove the bone all around the implant which results in more bone loss and sometimes necessitates additional bone grafting procedures. In some cases, it is not possible to use this kit due to the implant’s shape (like a one-piece implant) or a broken inner screw, etc. And sometimes we need to remove some bone to ease the process as well. But this kit is always our first choice in removing titanium implants in order to keep as minimally invasive as possible.
